The leg yield is one of the most basic lateral movements asked of the dressage horse. Leg yields at the trot are required in AHSA competition at First Level.
This animated .gif shows Don Giovanni, a Hanoverian gelding, performing a leg yield left, head to the wall. This correct leg yield shows Don Giovanni moving both forward and sideways with only the slightest bend away from the direction he is moving.
