ANIMATED GUIDE TO DRESSAGE
Anky van Grunsven and Cameleon Bonfire |
The piaffe is a trot performed nearly on the spot. It requires the utmost collection and engagement from the horse, and is required only at the highest levels of international dressage competition. |
|
This animated .gif shows Cameleon Bonfire in a finished and near-perfect
piaffe. Note that the horse is performing the piaffe practically on the
spot.
If one were to find fault with this piaffe, it would be in that the right diagonal pair of legs (right foreleg, left hindleg) is not lifted as high as the left diagonal. The forefoot should be lifted to about the height of the opposite cannon. The hind foot should be lifted to about the height of the opposite fetlock. Of course, those of us who struggle to find even a few steps of piaffe shouldn't be in a hurry to find fault! To see an animated .gif of a horse just beginning the piaffe (and doing a fine job) see Betsy Steiner and Metternich. |
