ANIMATED GUIDE TO DRESSAGE
Carol Lavell and
Gifted
|
In the extended trot, the horse lengthens his stride to the utmost, while still demonstrating self-carriage and engagement. The extended trot is first called for in the AHSA Third Level tests, and is seen throughout the international level tests. |
| This animated .gif shows Gifted covering an immense amount of ground per stride. Note the obvious moments of suspension (hang time, if you will) that Gifted is famous for. Note also that the cannon bones of the diagonal pairs of legs remain parallel during the movement -- this important fact indicates that the horse is engaged and not just flinging his forelegs in a goose-stepping fashion. | |
