At this point is seems that only Netscape 2.0 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 support animated gifs. If your browser does not support animated gifs, you'll see only one still image. The image must download to your browser cache, and while it's downloading, it won't seem very animated. Be patient -- once the entire image is downloaded it will begin running through the animation. Theoretically, you can stop the animation by hitting the escape key or clicking on the "stop" button in the browser. However, I've had varied results with this. On some browsers, the animation will run more smoothly if you use your mouse to move your cursor around within the browser screen. Go figure. These animated gifs were taken from video clips -- they were originally in color but look better in black and white. The last few frames of the animated gif might appear to slow down: this is a bug in Netscape and not something that I did on purpose. |
